Online Action from Home

Change-300-pix-sizeThese days, there is plenty you can do from the comfort of your own home – online action that can help raise funds, spread the word and raise consciousness.  Here are a few of my favorite ways to make a difference from my laptop, iPad or mobile phone!

Our Revolution:

In order to harness the tremendous people power and passion generated by Bernie Sanders‘ national campaign, he and his fellow progressives founded Our Revolution – a coalition fighting for true democracy, social and economic justice, environmental concerns and the power of public opinion through the American political mechanism.  “Through supporting a new generation of progressive leaders, empowering millions to fight for progressive change and elevating the political consciousness, Our Revolution will transform American politics to make our political and economic systems once again responsive to the needs of working families” and social responsibilities.  They have already done so much to bring important issues to the forefront, and there is so much you can do from home!  Join us!

 Amazon Smile:

Link your Amazon account to the charity of your choice and simply shop starting from the Amazon Smile home page and Amazon will donate a portion of the purchase price to your favorite charitable organization. You can choose from nearly one million organizations to support – my favorite is Peace Direct.

Goodsearch:

Did you know you can raise funds to support your favorite charity just by searching the web using Goodsearch?  Just pick a cause you care about, then, as you go about your daily activities, you’ll be raising money for that cause – at no cost to you!  They also have links to raise funds while you shop, dine, play games, take surveys and get coupons!  They even have an add-on plug-in to help you to earn donations for your favorite cause when you shop and search even when you don’t visit Goodsearch first!

Sign or Start a Petition!

douglass-petition-mPetitions are a long standing tradition of democracy, and the internet is indeed an equalizing force and an online community – so instead of walking around downtown with a clipboard you can start your petition online and walk it around on email, Facebook, Twitter and social media. It is a way to raise awareness and create change.

Move On is one of my favorite progressive organizations who use online tools to lower the barriers to participation in our democracy, so real Americans have a voice in a political process.  It is a great place to sign or start petitions for progressive change, human rights, economic fairness, environmental causes and much more.

You can also choose to sign or start a petition with the White House.  This is a more open platform and there are petitions pending on all manner of topics – including a few astounding ones that I decidedly disagree with.  This is the nature of free speech and a good thing – so let’s make sure the voice of peace, unity and compassion is heard.  If a petition reaches 100,000 signatures within 30 days the White House will issue a response.
